Featured here are a miscellany of sculptures, drawings, and other pieces which I've been making.
TREE SAPLING CREATURE
I was inspired by an old drawing of mine which featured these strange tree-like creatures and sought to find a way to bring them to life through sculpture. Sculpey is the main medium which these 'Saplings' are sculpted and are then carefully painted to appear wood-like.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS HEAD SCULPTS
What started as a small, harmless sculpt of Ian McKellen's 'Gandalf the Grey' from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy turned into an intensive sculpting exercise, desperately trying to capture McKellen's likeness. Soonafter I attempted to do the same for Christopher Lee's 'Saruman the White'. Sculpted in Elephant Grey Sculpey.
MEDIEVAL FLAGON - BEER HOLDER
Made from an old document tube, my task with this piece was to simulate the look of a medieval drinking flagon, made from wood and metal. Strips of carboard were wrapped around the document tube and carved to emulate the grain and wear and tear of wood. Acrylic paints and sepia ink washes were stripped away to give this authentic wood effect.
